Examining the position of architectural criticism in the scientific and academic society of Iran (Case Study: Iran University of Science and Technology)

Abstract

Architectural criticism is defined as the recognition of an architectural work and a kind of challenging and intellectual attack on the scientific findings of a specific individual or group, that main concern is interpretation and judgment in various cultural, artistic, technical, social and practical dimensions. This issue makes criticism one of the necessities of every society; To the extent that if criticism is not present in society, the real value of architectural works will not be determined. Criticism is also considered a primary method of feedback and evaluation in architecture education and has the potential to be considered as a powerful educational tool in architecture education. It can also be a field for the basics of design, have a positive effect on the flow of architecture, and unconsciously bring closer the methods and results of architectural education in different universities. Therefore, taking into account that the category of criticism is one of the basic needs of the architectural society of the present era and solving its problems requires more effort, the current qualitative research was formed and the pathology and examination of the state of architectural criticism in the scientific and academic community in Iran Today, it has prioritized. The required data has been collected through library studies as well as analytical survey studies, by communicating with beginner architecture students in some of the country's top universities and solving their individual and group exercises. The findings show that beginner architecture students are not familiar with the category of criticism at the beginning, but in the last semesters, criticism finds a more reasonable definition in their minds. This is despite the fact that if this familiarization takes place in the first semesters and while passing the basic courses, it can make architecture students look at their surroundings with a careful and accurate look from the beginning and make more realistic designs.
